The Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) is a nationwide non-profit trade association that supports the electrical and systems contracting industry through education, advocacy, and excellence. With 53 campuses and local chapters across the United States, IEC represents over 3,600 member businesses and employs more than 100,000 electrical and systems professionals. Each year, nearly 16,000 electricians and systems specialists benefit from our industry-leading training programs.

The IEC Central Alabama Chapter was founded in January 1990, building on the foundation of the Birmingham Electrical Contractors Association. Established to address the growing need for skilled professionals, the association's primary mission was to create a robust apprenticeship training program for merit shop contractors.
